Empowering Education & The Impact of Teaching Aboriginal Languages
To debut a new season of this podcast that is a mouthful, we examine the efforts of teaching an Aboriginal language in high school. Jandai is traditionally spoken on Quandamooka land and our guest, Kahli Dawkings, a Bundjalung woman, took on the task to teach it to her studnts at Cleaveland District State High School. Listen as she shares her practical experience in establishing a language program from scratch. Explore the impact of Indigenous language, history, and cultural education on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, as Kahli discusses the power and effectiveness of these out-of-the-box educational initiatives. Join us for a firsthand account of the challenges and triumphs encountered on the journey to breathe new life into Jandai, shedding light on the transformative potential of preserving linguistic heritage.
